December 2024

Family Applications

Family applications for our 2025 camps will open at the beginning of January and will remain open for one month.  After receiving seven times more family applications in 2024 than we could provide places for, the selection panel will have a challenging time ahead of them. To help with this, this year we will be adding a video, timeline and Q&A that families can use to help them to decide whether applying for camp is right for their family. Watch this space!

Volunteer applications

Calling all volunteers!

With the number of camps growing and hopes for growth in the future, we need more volunteers than ever! We love to see volunteers return to camp, and we encourage as many to do so as possible. Please do spread the word and encourage friends and family to volunteer. You definitely won’t regret it, it’s an unforgettable experience. We also encourage young volunteers to join us too. Young people aged 14 and over, accompanied by an adult, over 18 are welcome to joing our team of young volunteers. Please visit www.campjojo.org/volunteers for more information about how to apply.

New Team Member

We have another new member of the Camp Jojo team! Paul Hocker has been appointed as Volunteer Manager and takes up the post with immediate effect. Paul brings with him over two decades of experience in volunteer program development, volunteer management, safeguarding and hands-on experience working with charities. Paul will hit the ground running as volunteer applications open in January and he will be co-ordinating the application process and recruitment of volunteers.

Fundraising Events

Barn Dance 2024

In the Autumn, Ivy Farm hosted the annual Barn Dance in support of Camp Jojo. Once again, the barn was filled with music, dancing and laughter, as Camp Jojo supported reunited to enjoy a country and western themed evening. Thank you once again to Essex-based solicitors, Fisher Jones Greenwood, who so generously sponsored the evening (providing food, drinks and band, tickets and raffle prizes). A great time was had by all and the evening raised over a whopping £2,700

Festive Light Switch-On

Colchester residents, Pip and Glenys Diebelius hosted the annual switch-on of their spectacular Christmas lights in late November in support of Camp Jojo. The event has become a much-anticipated part of the run up to Christmas in Colchester and this year was no exception. Hundreds of families attended to join in, which included lights, hot chocolate, mince pies, pantomime characters and even snow! The family will be collecting for Camp Jojo until 31st December and we will announce the final amount raised in January.

Glenys Diebelius commented, ‘We love Christmas, and what started as a few lights has now turned into a major event on the local calendar.   When we heard about Camp Jojo and the amazing work they do, we knew this was the local charity we had been looking for to support. We are honoured to help keep Camp Jojo going. Last year we wanted to smash the £1000 barrier and we raised £1300 and this year we really want to get to £1500.  We want to thank everyone that comes and donates, it keeps us going.’

Thank you to our donors!

A special thank you to the following organisations who have joined our wonderful supporters. Their support is invaluable and we are so grateful.

Every penny counts so if you would like to host a fundraising event for Camp Jojo, please email fundraising@campjojo.org.uk for more ideas of events that could be possible. We are also able to provide materials such as posters and leaflets to support you at your event

Seasons Greetings and see you all in 2025!

With good wishes,

The Camp Jojo Team
